Cold and Flu season -- importance of immune system support

Cold and Flu season is here!!  Last year at this time we were already battling the H1N1 (Swine flu) virus in full force.  There was an epidemic and everyone was in a panic.  This year its a much milder start to the flu season but none the less it is still here.

Take some preventative measures and start taking more.......can you guess?....Vitamin D!!!  I have most of my patients taking 5000 IU a day.  In the winter I suggest they increase their dosage to 10,000 IU a day for one or two weeks out of the month and then go back down to 5000 IU.  This helps keep the immune system strong.

Another good herb is Elderberry.  This helps fight off viruses as well.  You can get Elderberry in a syrup or tincture form.

Always have extra supplies of Vitamin C and drinks lots of water too!

Get a few different immune support herb combinations at the store and keep in your medicine cabinet.  It is a good idea to rotate the types of immune support you give yourself so your body doesnt get used to one type.  I suggest you get some herbal tinctures (liquid herbs) because these are stronger and have a faster effect on your system.   A lot of stores and vitamin shops sell tinctures.  Load up now before the snow flies!!
