Heartburn - ways to ease the burn

"Does heartburn get you down?  Are you taking a lot of antacids?  Here are some tips to keep the burning at bay.

- Cut down or stop coffee, peppermint, alcohol and chocolate. These things can relax the sphincter between the stomach and the esophagus and cause gastric acid to wash up into the esophagus and burn the tissue.

- Drink more chamomile tea. This is a known healer of ulcers, inflammation and erosions of the stomach, esophagus and intestines.

- Chew some DGL tablets (De-glycerinated Licorice).  This form of licorice does not raise your blood pressure and will heal ulcers, erosions and inflammation in the stomach.

- Don't eat within 3 hours before bedtime to ensure that your stomach will be empty.  You might also sleep with your head slightly elevated.  This should at least ease any heartburn throughout the night.

- Breathe and relax more to calm yourself."
