Vitamin C - importance and benefits of Vitamin C sufficiency

"How much vitamin C are you getting in your diet?  Our diets should be filled with lots of vegetables, fruits and whole grains but the reality is we don't get a lot of good vegetables and fresh fruits...and the vitamin C in them is lacking.

What foods have Vitamin C?  Is your first thought oranges?  Well they are actually 4th on the list of high Vitamin C foods.  Ahead of them is...

- Guava has 188mg of Vitamin C per half cup of raw fruit;

- Red sweet pepper has 142mg per half cup raw;

- Kiwi fruit has 75mg per one medium fruit; and

- Orange (medium-sized) has 70 mg of Vitamin C

Why all the fuss over Vitamin C?  Allergy season. Vitamin C is helpful to decrease inflammation and decrease histamine that causes allergic reactions.  For allergies take 500-1000mg to start.  At these high doses you will want to supplement with a pill or powder."
