The selected Health Tip is summarized below.  An audio clip of the tip as presented by Dr. Leah on the Chat With Women radio show is available at the end of the tip.

Thyroid problems -- a factor in many health conditions

"How healthy is your thyroid?  Ask yourself a few questions...

·Are you cold all the time?

·Do you have constipation?

·Is your skin dry?

·Is your hair falling out?

·Are you tired and a little depressed?

·Have you had a hard time losing weight?

These are a few of the symptoms that are related to a low thyroid (hypothyroid).  An overactive thyroid is referred to as hyperthyroid which has its own set of symptoms and subsequent ailments.

If you haven't had your thyroid checked in awhile, then this would be a good time to come in and have me do a complete thyroid panel and blood work to determine if you have thyroid problems.

Low thyroid is very common and quite often missed on basic lab work.  Most doctors only check TSH and that alone doesn't provide sufficient information to determine the health of your thyroid.  I check TSH, T3, T4 and antibodies against the thyroid.  These test results provide sufficient information to allow for a proper evaluation of the health of your thyroid.

Start the new year with a healthy thyroid to help you lose weight and have more energy!!"
